Description
This is an ORIGINAL and RARE lot of insignia embroidered/sewn on olive drab wool uniform sleeves by members of the Tank Corps during WWI. I acquired this lot circa 2013-14 as I was ending my collecting and I don't recall if I bought it at the Show of Shows in Louisville, KY or the SOCALMICS militaria show in Bellflower, CA. The design of the armor triangle is attributed in part to the COL George S. Patton, Jr., who was instrumental in the formation and training of the Tank Corps and commanded the 304th Tank Brigade in the St. Mihiel and Meuse-Argonne offensives.
All of the insignia is in VERY GOOD condition with NO mothing and is embroidered/sewn on OD uniform-type wool, and consists of the following (from top to bottom in the riker mount):  (1) Overseas Stripe; (2) Tank Corps Triangle Insignia; (3) Ribbon bar consisting of Mexican Border Campaign, WWI Victory medal with campaign star and Army of Occupation ribbon;  (4) Corporal stripes; and (5) "Wound" stripe. Items 2 and 4 have the cross-stitching used to attach them to the uniform.  Included is the 4" x 6" note card describing the lot, which states that the insignia was removed from a "ragged uniform".
