    Description

This Vintage Dayton - IBM scale is fully functional.  The scale capacity is 5 pounds.  The front side indicates the weight to the buyer of merchandise, while the back side has numerous other It has marking to help the merchant calculate the price of the items weighed out.  For example, if something were 20 cents per pound, the scale next to the number 20, indicated the cost up to .00, if 5 pounds were weighted out.
While the front of the scale shows patent dates from 1900, 1903 and 1906, this design was apparently manufactured from about 1920 until the 1940's.  The IBM decal on the top of the center arm in the 3rd photo helps to date it to 1933, because the International Business Machines (IBM) Corporation purchased the Dayton Scale Company in 1933, and then sold the Dayton Scale Division of IBM to Hobart Manufacturing just a year later.  The serial number is shown on the front side and is 962284.
One of the seals from the Massachusetts Department of Weights and Measures attached to the scale indicates that it was in commercial use in Ludlow, Massachusetts in the 1950's.
The scale does show signs of use, and has a patina consistent with its age and use.  I have not attempted to clean the scale other than to just wipe down the surface dust.  The glass is unbroken, and doesn't have any cracks.  The scale itself weighs about 20 pounds, so shipping weight would likely be close to 25 pounds.  Local pickup would be welcomed.
